NLS Developer Wins Coding Competition – ‘Code in the Dark’

The youngest member of the NLS development team has seen off competition from many other agencies to walk away with first prize in a coding competition.

NLS recently sent one of our dev team to compete in the renowned ‘Code in the Dark’ competition, which pits contestants against each other through multiple rounds of challenging coding objectives.

Rising to the challenge, our man Dominik dispatched the competition and managed to achieve 1st in every single round he was entered into. This performance was, naturally, more than enough to see him crowned as overall winner of the competition and walk away with the grand prize, an Oculus Rift virtual reality console.

The event was held in the Rialto in Brighton, and a well-refreshed crowd including almost the whole NLS team roared on Dominik to victory.

The Code in the dark competition tours the UK, where participants are given small periods of time to recreate example websites without being able to see and test the results. These examples included important aspects of any page; such as layout, colour, positioning, imagery and animation.

These competitions attract some of the best and brightest website developers throughout the country, from numerous respectable agencies and development teams.

Each round of the competition would follow a knockout system, involving the winners from the previous rounds, until the final. The NLS team, sporting custom-made t-shirts for the evening, cheered our man to victory and personally handed him his grand prize.

20-year old Dominik is the youngest member of the NLS team. “I’d be lying if I said it was a walk in the park, every round proved a difficult challenge and every competitor seemed as though they deserved the victory” he says. “If it wasn’t for my fellow colleagues cheering me on, I may not have had the confidence to go as far as I did. I can’t wait to play around with the Oculus!”.
